UYN® – Unleash Your Nature is continuing to support yacht sailing this summer season. This Italian sportswear brand already sponsors world champion teams, including TP52 Quantum Racing. Now we’re getting ready to become a leading light in the Melges World League European Division circuit, too. UYN is technical partner to not one but two Italian Melges 32 teams. The first is G3BAU Sailing Team, owned by Luigi Giannattasio, a candidate for ultimate success and one that has already won the first stage. The second is defending champion Melges 20 Brontolo Racing, owned by Italian Filippo Pacinotti.
The three top teams will be blessed with multiple world champion Federico Michetti’s contribution on board as trimmer, chosen by UYN for his experience in the top competitions and a long history of success. Those are elements considered vital to developing UYN technology when applied specifically to the world of sailing.
MOTYON: NEWCOMER IN THE SPRING/SUMMER 2019 COLLECTION
The teams will wear the UYN MOTYON technical base layer, a newcomer in the spring/summer 2019 collection. These champion sailors need protection against the damp but they also need garments that do not restrict the movements needed for manoeuvres in the boat. Motyon base layers are therefore ideal. Hypermotion technology allows the upper section of the shirt to be made with one single piece of fabric, meaning no irritating seams around the tops of the shoulders. The result? Total freedom of movement for their arms.
The natural Natex fibre reduces the weight of the base layer pants and shirt by 25% and reduces drying time by 50%: athletes are accompanied by a feeling of total comfort throughout the race, an aspect that is vital to their performance. That’s not all: at times of maximum effort, the incredible 3D systems - 4-Way Ventilation and Coolvent - are activated. They allow sweat to evaporate and a constant flow of air to pass between skin and fabric. All this means the body is always ready to unleash its energy, keeping the mind focused on the race.
A START WITH A BANG: IMMEDIATE VICTORY
The Melges regattas are a solid example of one-design racing. The teams compete on a level playing field: their vessels are all manufactured by the legendary American producer Melges Performance Sailboats. Attendance from the most successful champions in international sailing is a marked feature at these events, with America’s Cup winners, olympians and world champions all competing.
The Melges 32 fleet has already taken to the waters, starting between Friday 29 and Sunday 31 March in Villasimius, Sardinia. And UYN and Luigi Giannattasio’s team found victory right away, winning the first stage (dominating in three of the seven regattas in the schedule) and gaining the right to be classified as one of the greats. The next event is scheduled for 17-19 May in Puntaldia, North Sardinia, while the stunning Sardinian waters will also play host to the Melges 20 class Event 1, from 26 to 28 April.
