Two new world titles and two silver medals: UYN truly reined in success at the Biathlon World Championships.
This is the biggest event of the Nordic skiing season, this year taking place in Antholz (or Anterselva, north eastern Italy) from 12 to 23 February. There were 11 days of tough challenges. Emotions ran high and in excess of 160,000 fans were there to watch, not to mention the millions who tuned in on TVs all over the world. UYN played a starring role as we contributed to the Italian team's excellent results.
Dorothea Wierer, in particular, cemented her position as the queen of biathlon. In the forests and on the pistes around which she was raised, we saw her take gold in the Pursuit and 15km Individual Race.
The Italian champion also bagged her third world title in the Mass Start, where she won a superb silver medal, as well as climbing onto the second step of the podium for the Mixed Relay with teammates Dominik Windisch, Lisa Vittozzi and Lukas Hofer.
UYN base layers and socks: the stars of success
As sponsor of the Italian and Slovak biathlon teams, UYN provided our highly technical base layers and socks in support of the champions’ performances. Wierer and her peers were able to rely on the high performance Evolutyon and Motyon base layer collections. Each offers one of two levels of thickness in order to provide maximum thermal comfort, no matter what the race conditions.
Evolutyon and Motyon are made using the 100% natural Natex fibre and designed to ensure biathletes are totally free to move, while also providing strategic support for their muscles. These are vital features, whether out on the course or in the firing range. The Coolvent and Drylight Technologies allow for excess sweat to be quickly wicked away, while promoting ventilation during maximum effort. The Heatmemory system instead traps in the body’s warmth when the athlete is less active. The result is optimum body temperature control at every stage of the competition.
Comfortable feet are also vital to these champions’ success. The UYN CROSS COUNTRY socks have been designed to protect the ankles and Achilles tendons. They also support the feet during physical activity with targeted compression and provide excellent ventilation thanks to the 3D Cool Air Flow system. The advanced functions of these socks translate into a decisive advantage in competition, where the difference between victory and defeat can be a mere second.
